Amman, 31 March 2026 – Under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Ghida Talal, the Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and with support and funding from the European Union, inaugurated two new ultramodern medical warehouses in Amman, known as the Central Region Medical Warehouses, in the presence of Princess Rajaa bint Talal.
These warehouses primarily serve as storage facilities affiliated with the health directorates in five governorates: Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, Madaba and Karak. Their aim is to supply primary health care centers, increasing storage capacity to 2,960 cubic meters through the installation of a specialized racking system, with an additional 15% expansion capacity to accommodate emergency needs.
The warehouses, valued at nearly JD1.3 million, are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including various forklift models, a 40-cubic-meter cold room for cold chain medicines, a central air-conditioning and ventilation system, a backup power generator, advanced logistics and information technology systems, a security monitoring system, a fire safety and suppression system, and renewable energy systems that support environmental sustainability.
On the occasion, Princess Ghida stated: “We are proud of this strategic achievement, which will play an important role in securing medicine and raising the level of comprehensive health coverage that we seek to achieve throughout the Kingdom. I thank the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization, and the European Union for dedicating tremendous efforts to implementing this vital project.”
Minister of Health Dr. Ibrahim Al-Bdour affirmed that the establishment of the warehouses in the Central Region constitutes a pivotal step in strengthening the drug stock in the public and private sectors, noting that the available supply covers the Kingdom’s needs for more than 6 months, reflecting a high level of readiness and stability in the availability of medicines.
He also explained that the Ministry is working in close partnership with all levels of the pharmaceutical sector and relevant authorities to ensure the integration of efforts and enhance the efficiency of supply chains, which contributes to facilitating the work of companies and warehouses and overcoming the challenges related to import, manufacturing and distribution processes, and ensuring the continued availability of medicines and medical supplies for citizens in all circumstances.
HE Dr. Al-Bdour expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this project in partnership with the relevant authorities, foremost among them the World Health Organization, and with the support of the European Union, which played an essential role in its success.
For his part, Ambassador of the European Union to Jordan Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas, said: “The European Union stands by Jordan as it is sustaining its efforts to strengthen its health system and ensure equitable access to essential medicines. The inauguration of these modern medical warehouses marks an important milestone in improving the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of the country’s medical supply chains. Through our strong partnership with the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization, we remain committed to supporting Jordan’s efforts to enhance public health services and ensure that vital medicines and medical supplies reach communities across the Kingdom, including the most vulnerable.”
Dr. Iman Al-Shankiti, WHO Representative to Jordan, emphasized the positive impact of these developments on Jordan’s healthcare system and their alignment with the WHO Regional Director’s flagship initiative. She noted that these warehouses are part of a broader initiative to strengthen the Ministry of Health’s medical supply chain management system, including the development and modernization of 14 warehouses across the Kingdom, supported by WHO and generously funded by the European Union.
Dr. Al-Shankiti stated: “With the completion of these warehouses, Jordan will have a comprehensive national network of modern, robust, resilient and agile supply chain infrastructure that meets the highest international standards. This initiative demonstrates the importance of strong partnerships and sustained investment in public health to ensure uninterrupted access to essential medicines and medical supplies for all.”
The Central Region Medical Warehouses represent a strategic step toward establishing a modern, resilient, and sustainable supply chain system in Jordan and across the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
