Inauguration of KHCC 5th Floor New Expansion

05/03/2009

Amman, Thursday March 5th 2009 - HRH Princess Ghida Talal,  Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF), inaugurated today the King Hussein Cancer Center’s  (KHCC) new 5-floor private expansion.

The highly anticipated expansion was built with the intention of relieving the ever-increasing patient demand at the Center. While the Center was originally built to receive 1500 patients a year, it currently treats over 3000 new patients every year, a statistic which has created an urgent need to increase bed capacity.

The new space has allowed an increase in the number of patient beds from 118 to 180 as well as 2 additional new operating theaters and 18 state-of-the-art Intensive Care Units, 12 for adult and 6 for pediatric patients.  The 5 floor expansion also includes additional facilities such as waiting rooms, two day rooms designated for patients recreation between treatment and 3 private suites, one of which is a Royal Suite.  All equipment in the expansion is of the highest standard and will be entirely computerized.

In a speech during the ceremony, HRH Princess Ghida said, “For the past six years, we have concentrated all our efforts and resources on providing the best cancer care for our patients. After achieving that goal, we focused on providing the best physical accommodations and environment for our patients, which is exemplified in our new state-of-the-art 5-floor expansion”.

Among the guests was Mr. Ali Kolaghassi, Vice Chairman and CEO of Saraya Holdings Ltd, whose late mother Yusra was an outstanding friend of the King Hussein Cancer Center and made exceptional efforts to recruit donors for the much needed expansion. In recognition of her immense support,  an entire floor at KHCC was dedicated in her name, comprising the Royal Suite.

The King Hussein Cancer Center has become the leading regional medical facility in the Middle East providing comprehensive cancer care to both adult and pediatric patients. It is also the only center in Jordan and the region to have achieved two international accreditations from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), which is the best stamp of quality a hospital can have. KHCC aims to deliver the latest in cancer care to patients, actively promotes awareness and educational programs aimed at early detection and prevention of cancer as well as training and research in order to decrease mortality and alleviate the suffering that results from cancer.
